Pakoras

A deep-fried snack made by dipping vegetables (such as onions, potatoes, or spinach) in a chickpea flour batter and frying them. Here's a basic recipe for vegetable pakoras:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups vegetables (such as sliced onions, chopped spinach, diced potatoes, or shredded carrots)
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, salt, red chili powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, and baking soda.
  2. Add water to the dry ingredients and mix well to form a smooth batter. The consistency of the batter should be thick, but pourable.
  3. Add the vegetables to the batter and mix until the vegetables are coated with the batter.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the vegetable batter into the oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the pakoras from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite chutney.

Note:

You can adjust the amount of spices and vegetables based on your preference. You can also add other ingredients like chopped cilantro or grated ginger to the batter for added flavor.
